STAYTON, Ore.– Track and Field was just something that Kennedy’s Kaden Hattan just picked up last season as a junior because a few of his senior friends talked him into it.
But now, as a senior entering the twilight of his High School career, the gamble of a new sport is paying off as he’s one of the top Discus throwers in 2A. Currently sitting seventh in 2A in the event.
“I think I’m doing pretty good,” said Hattan. “Overall, I’m just having a pretty good season.”
On Friday, Hattan took part in the annual Regis Twilight Meet in Stayton. The senior, going up against some good throwers in 2A-4A, placed eighth in the Shot Put and PR’d in the Discus with a throw of 133-feet-1-inch, good for fourth in the meet.
“It’s pretty nice being at a meet and trying to figure out what I can work on before (Districts) so I can throw better,” said Hattan. “Shot, I think I could have done better honestly. It wasn’t in the cards today. (Discus), probably keeping my chest up and making sure I release out and up because I’ve been having a big problem with that.”
Reaghan Williams finished fifth in the Triple Jump, sixth in the High Jump. Austynn Garrison finished fifth in the Pole Vault. Charlee Traeger finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles. Kaleb Eder finished seventh in the 300-meter hurdles.
