Sprague’s Camie Olsen was hoping for.
A strong freshman season came to a screeching halt due to a hip injury sustained while warming up for the High Jump towards the end of last season. Just when Districts was on the horizon.
But. Despite the heartbreak, the now-sophomore has worked her way back. Is 100-percent and found herself contending for a High Jump victory at the Titan Track Classic at West Salem High School.
“It was a little discouraging last year with that injury, especially with Districts and not being able to compete. But I think I’m doing pretty well this year. It’s kinda like a mind game going, I just got to be confident,” said Olsen. “It’s going to take a bit to get back into the groove of it. I just got to build up more speed and go into it not thinking as much.”
Olsen finished third in the event with a jump of 4-feet-9.75-inches.
While Olsen was finishing the day in the High Jump pit, next to her was Anthony Workman. The sophomore PR’d on his fifth throw of the event, throwing 162-feet-8.75-inches that helped Workman to a second-place finish in the event on Saturday.
“It’s just a lot of watching film and repeating the same thing over-and-over again. Fixing the little stuff and when you put it all together, you just throw far. It all just comes together,” said Workman. “(The meet) has helped me a lot. Being able to throw six throws and going into finals, there’s a lot more stuff you can practice instead of having three or four.”
Jovi Johnson won the 400-meter race and was second in the 800-meter race. Carly Skogstad (200-meters and Long Jump), Dylan Henthorne (400-meters), Carter Lovell (110-meter hurdles), Emmett Hunsaker (shot put) all finished third. The Sprague 4×400-meter relay won their race. The Olympians finished third as a team on the Girls side and tied for fifth on the boys side of the Meet.
