SWEET HOME, Ore.– Something just clicked for Regis’ Stuart McLaughlin in the second half of the 1,500 meter race on Saturday afternoon.
Towards the back of the pack, and seeing the leaders making their move, McLaughlin did the same.
And the kick worked.
By race end, he was crossing the finish line with a fifth-place finish with a time of 4:12.80.
“I just saw the lead pack just go and I was like, ‘if I’m not going with them, then I’m going to get dropped’, so I just tried to get up there with them,” McLaughlin. “It felt really good. It felt good to get a good race in with some good competition. I was trying to get in a good race.
“I’ve been doing 800’s and 3K’s, so I wasn’t sure how this was going to go. But it ended up going pretty well and I can still keep up with some of the leaders.”
McLaughling finished tenth in the 800-meter race. Harper Stoops finished ninth in the 1,500-meter and 3,000-meter race.
Regis’ Clara Persons finished ninth in the 400-meter race. Frankie Koehnke finished 13th in the 1,500-meter race.
