TURNER, Ore.–  Bryce Kuenzi’s junior season started off with a bang in a massive way.
1,000 yards on the ground by the time they were in battle with Stayton in the fifth game of the season before tragedy struck for the power back.
During that game, in the third quarter, Kuenzi suffered what would be a torn ACL and meniscus that sidelined Kuenzi for the remainder of the season.
“Last year started off great, probably the best that I’ve ever had so far in High School.  The team was doing great. Overall, it was still a fantastic season at Cascade,” Kuenzi said.
Kuenzi finished the season with 1,239 yards through four-and-a-half games as the Cougars battled to a 4A State Semi-Final appearance.
The healing process was long, but Kuenzi embraced the challenge.
Through the weeks and months that followed, he rehabbed hard and eventually worked his way back to the gridiron.
Kuenzi was out participating in Tuesday’s and Thursday’s Mini-Camp sessions.  Going full steam with a brace on his leg like the injury never happened.
The goals are there for Kuenzi.  Making 4A All-State First Team for the third-straight year.  To lead his team and take them deep into the postseason once again.
“Recovery went great.  It took a lot of work.  A lot of work and dedication.  I think i had the best surgeon i could’ve asked for and my rehab.  I hit legs two times a week through 23 weeks straight,” Kuenzi said.  “A lot of rehab and dedication.
“I’m coming back with a chip on my shoulder to get the first team All-State three times in a row.  That’s what I’m gonna go for and play for this team and take this team as far as we can.”
Kuenzi’s comeback journey will continue with Team Camp this next week going into official practice the week of August 18.  The Cougars will open the season on August 29 out at Baker before hosting Redmond on September 5 for their home opener.
