SALEM, Ore.–  Amity’s Kiyan Vrell came into the javelin event cold and had no warm-up time coming from the Long Jump event at the Titan Track Classic Saturday afternoon, but nonetheless as the Warrior thrower made his way into the finals of the Javelin event.
He sat tied for first with Lebanon’s Gabe Allise-Jester, but the 5A thrower had the tiebreaker in achieving the164-feet-10-inch throw in fewer throws.  But in his sixth and final throw of the meet, Vrell had just enough in him to take the event thanks to a throw of 168-feet-7-inches.
“It shows that when I need to throw to jump first, I’m capable of doing it against good competition,” Vrell said.  “Just trusting the process with what me and my coaches are doing.  I’m just believing and putting my all in there.  The end goal is 200 (feet), I really like the state meet record of 199 (feet), if I can get that at State, that’ll be great.  Just belief in myself, especially when you’re going through a valley as I am, so just belief, and I’ll make it happen.”
Vrell also finished second in the Discus with a PR throw of 133-feet-9.5-inches and finished seventh in the Long Jump.  Brody Horne finished third in the Shot Put with a PR throw of 47-feet-0.25-inches and was seventh in the Discus
Mya Haarsma finished third in the 200-meter dash and was fourth in the 100-meter dash, Haley Miersma also finished third in the 100-meter dash
