KEIZER, Ore.– Incoming Stayton sophomore Liam Brown has already made a name for himself two games into the American Legion Single-A season.
In his first start of the summer, back on June 8, Brown had a perfect game going into the sixth inning against the Corvallis Single-A squad. It was a complete game effort by Brown that saw the Eagle pitcher striking out 16 batters.
Nearly a week later, Brown was back on the bump. Against the team that handed the Post 58 Single-A Mac’s their lone defeat of the season in the Crescent Valley Single-A Legion squad, he continued his dominance.
Through the four-and-two-third-innings he was pitching, Brown struck out six batters. He allowed his offense to work in comfort, allowing the Post 58 squad to build a 6-0 lead going into the third inning before the Raiders began to time out his pitches.
“I think it’s been good. The strikeouts have been there, and my whole team is there to back me up. I kept the runs low and the wins up. There’s nothing more you could ask for,” Brown said.
The first game against CV was a feeling out process as the Raiders defeated the Mac’s 11-3 that day on June 8, the first game of the doubleheader that Post 58 had that day before taking on Corvallis. points Brown. Since that day, the Post 58 squad has wheeled off four-straight victories, their fourth coming Saturday evening when they got revenge on Crescent Valley with their 12-5 victory to improve to 4-1 on the year.
“As long as we keep building as a team, I think we’re really balanced. No matter who’s out there, we still have a great chance at it and a great shot at it,” said Brown.
