HILLSBORO, Ore.–  Barely a week after winning the 3A State Championship, the Scio duo of Cam Dalke and Macy Johnson were wrapping up their second and third games of the Summer Season as members of the NW Vandals-Dalke squad at the Valley Invite.
The duo, who are entering their senior year with the Loggers, are hoping to take that next step this summer.  Bridging this past seasons into their final season at the prep level.
For Johnson, who played in the outfield Saturday, it’s about making herself the best version that she can be.
“I can make the most of it by really better at myself, so i can be better for my team and creating better bonds,” said Johnson.
Dalke, who caught the first game against the USA Explosion Premier 18U squad before playing second base in the second game, is working on being the best teammate that she can be
“I think just being the best teammate and being so close to your teammates is super helpful.  And having fun, that’s the biggest thing.   When I’m having fun, I’m doing great,” said Dalke.
Softball holds a special spot for both of the athletes.  For Johnson, it’s that team comradery that she loves of the sport.  It’s something that she has taken to heart knowing her Prep career is entering its twilight.
“It’s just big for me knowing that I got one more year left to play.  I love the girls on my high school team, and knowing I get one more year with them is big to me.  So getting to be out here and getting better through Summer will help me get better for my team,” said Johnson.
The game is therapy for Dalke.  The sport has given the incoming senior an outlet back in middle school to be herself.  A safe space as she has made the diamond hers.
“I’ve played it my whole life.  I went through a really rough patch  in middle school, and softball was my therapy and my place to take my energy out, and I can be loud and be myself.  It’s just my safe place,” said Dalke.
The Vandals will close out the Valley Invite on Sunday.
