SALEM, Ore.– The Sheridan softball team put themselves in a favorable position to win a ball game Thursday afternoon against Blanchet.
The Spartans came out sharp on both sides of the ball and built a 5-2 lead going into the bottom half of the fifth inning.
“We worked as a team, we communicated, and it kinda fell apart, i guess,” starts Sheridan’s Madison Blacketer. “It was pretty big because now we all have the energy and the motivation to fight in every other game. Just more communication and not getting down after a bad play.”
That’s when the Cavaliers came around with their bats. Blanchet tied up the game at five. The Cavs locked down defensively in the top half of the sixth and pulled ahead 8-5. Back-to-back three runs innings had turned a three-run deficit into a three-run lead.
“It was insane. We never got down, never once were we ‘Ah dang it. We might lose this’, this was so fun to get those runs back. It was such a fun experience, ” said Blanchet’s Finley Bartels.
Bartels and Lexi Haessler each had two hits in the game.Ragean Smith led the Cavalier offense with three horses in the game.
Sheridan got a run back in the top half of the seventh off a Payton Pownall single, but couldn’t complete the comeback as the Spartans fell to Blanchet 8-6 on Thursday.
Blacketer struck out ten batters for the Spartans, and Emily McGuffey led the Sheridan offense with three hits in the game.
The Spartans head to play Amity for a twin-bill on Monday, while Blanchet will host Santiam Christian on Tuesday.
