TURNER, Ore.–  The Cascade Volleyball team came close to forcing a decisive third set against Sisters on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of the Cascade Tournament Gold Bracket.
The Cougars, coming off a close 25-23 defeat to the Outlaws, led Sisters 19-16 in Set 2 of the game.  Cascade needed the set win to extend the match to the final third set.
Slowly, however, the Outlaws clawed back.  Eventually tying the match at 23 en route in taking the second set 25-23 to close out the two-set sweep and to advance in the Gold Bracket.
This game, as with their previous games like Marist and the Cascade Christian Tournament where they played team’s like Dayton, it’s all good experiences and reps needed for them in their development as they enter this last week of the non-league season.
“With the girls, we’re working on competing right now and the rest will come is what we keep telling them.   They’re competing and that’s all I could ask for.  We’re very young, we’re young in Volleyball IQ and we came out with a lot of teachable moments.  All these tournaments are grateful for us in getting those teachable moments and respond.  We’ll get there,” said Cascade Head Coach Cristina Williams.
The Cougars will close out the preseason at Astoria before heading to Sisters for the Sisters tournament next Saturday.  It’s more opportunities for them to fine tune everything entering their first Oregon West Conference game opener against Central at home on September 24.
“It’s always great to get our lineups set and see who’s going to compete and who’s going to be the go-to girls.  Having these next two games. It’ll be really great for us to get ready for league and compete,” said Williams.
