Climbing That Mountain Again

SILVERTON, Ore.–  Silverton’s Luke Horner knows what it means to be a three-year Varsity player at Silverton.
It doesn’t happen too often and he’s honored and humbled by the opportunity to have said, entering his senior year, to be one of the few people to say that he was a multi-year Varsity player for the Foxes baseball program.
“It means a lot because a lot of guys that come through this program, they don’t play three years of Varsity.  We usually have our guys start JV, but being a sophomore and getting an opportunity to play, that was huge and it helped me grow  a lot.  We had a few other’s and they’ve grown a lot as players through it, Silverton’s a great program to do it in,” said Horner.
The Foxes return the bulk of their 2025 5A State Championship Squad that went 12-1 on the year.  Anchored by names like Lincoln Teeney, Kane Mack, Mark Bailey and Horner, the Foxes are hoping that this season will be a duplicate of last season’s success while embracing that ‘climb to that mountain top’ approach that helped them last season.
“It was a great last year, but as (Head Coach Dan) Lever said, it’s hard to stay on top of the mountain top then it is to climb it.  We got to try to do it again,” said Horner.
“(The Summer has) been good, we’ve had a lot of guys in the weight room this year, 7-on has gone pretty well.  We’ve had guys that played last year stepping up and being bigger leaders and younger guys coming in and filling role that we are going to be filled from last year,” adds Trey Carstensen.
Tuesday was just Day 2 of the journey as they prepare for their first game of the year against Coeur d’Alene (ID) on August 28.
