SCIO, Ore.–  With the season on the horizon, the Scio Volleyball team are taking some time away from the grind of preparing for the upcoming season to host a Middle School Camp.
The first day was on Tuesday at Scio High School with roughly 20/25 kids in attendance, sharing their knowledge and passion of the game to those who will be wearing the Logger uniform over the next few years once they get to the High School level.
It’s a nice change of pace of the Summer grind coming off of Summer League Volleyball and Open Gyms said Emma Thatcher.
“It will be good actually.  We’re still getting into Volleyball things, but we’re having more fun during different drills with the kids and we get to joke around with the team more than being more serious,” Thatcher said.  “It’s nice to give back to the kids and teach them.”
Head Coach Kate O’Connor points towards building that connection between the current crop of High School players and the kids in the community.  The kids look up to them O’Connor points and it helps her athlete’s see the sport from a different angle.
“They get to see, ‘oh this is what I get to be in a few years when I’m in High School’, but it helps the High School girls see the game of Volleyball from the coaching side and not just the player side is why I like it,” said O’Connor.
The camp will go through Thursday at Scio High School.
