SALEM, Ore.–  As a junior last Fall, South Salem’s Kellen Bowman really came into his own as the South Salem Starting Quarterback.
In his second year starting at the position, he earned 6A Special District 1 league honors, throwing for 3,215 yards during the Saxons tough 0-9 season last Fall while leading the young South Salem squad.
“We were the best offense in 6A last year, but I felt like we could have finished drives a little bit better on offense and finished in the Red Zone a little bit more.  Ways to improve this offseason,” said Bowman, a Portland Baseball-commit. “We got a lot of returning receivers as well.  It’s good with the complicated offense that we have to have a lot of guys coming back.  It’s just looking and seeing what we did wrong last year and how we can get better.”
With the twilight of his Prep Career on the horizon, the first official practice, Bowman’s last first practice with football being on August 17, he’s just taking it all in stride as the season is just around the corner.  On Wednesday, he was one of the player-coaches at the annual South Salem Kids Camp, helping coach up the future Saxons that could be here in just a few short years.
“This is the future of Saxon Football.  As much information we can put on them for their upcoming season, just get them excited for High School football,” said Bowman.
As for this last season, he’s just going to take it all in and leave it all out there as South Salem prepares for their jamboree on August 28 at Tigard and their Week 1 game on September 4 at Forest Grove.
“Just going out with a bang.  Just soaking in every single moment that I can and do everything I can for this team,” said Bowman.
