SILVERTON, Ore.– Kane Mack knows a thing or two about battling.
Entering his sophomore year, he battled for the starting Center spot for Silverton, going up against a Senior. Mack eventually earned the spot, something that he hasn’t relinquished entering his third year as the starting Center for Silverton.
“The battling trait, I always go out there and try my hardest. I keep trying as hard as I can until the final whistle,” said Mack. “It started three years ago, I was battling it out with a senior. I went to every practice trying to battle and I won the spot which was nice. Unfortunately we lost that season to Wilsonville, but the next season we got it back.”
Last season was a revenge tour as Mack called it. They got Wilsonville back in the opening round of the 5A playoffs, then knocked off Mountain View and then Summit for the 5A State Title.
Mack earned All-State Honors as a Offensive Lineman on the 5A Honorable Mention List as a junior.
And now entering his senior year, he’ll be looked to as a leader on a Silverton squad looking to retool after last season’s success to continue that Silverton Way.
“The biggest thing is to get everyone to commit to the process, want to get better, come to practice and always do your best,” said Mack.
For Mack, being a part of the Silverton Program means everything to him and holds a special place for him within his heart going into this Last Ride.
“This program means everything to me. I will always be a Fox, I can always come here years from now and talk to Lever, he’ll be here and welcoming. This season will mean everything for me, it’s the Last Ride. I already got Lever one, I want to get him another one because that’s how much he means to me as a coach,” Mack said.
Silverton opens the season at home August 28 against Coeur d’Alene of Idaho
