SALEM, Ore.– This Summer Volleyball season has helped the West Salem Volleyball team a lot going into next month’s try-outs and the upcoming season ahead.
After graduating eight seniors from last year’s 6A State Sweet 16 team, the Titans are using these three-set games on Tuesdays and Thursdays to help fill the void left by those recent graduates.
“We’re just trying to figure out our connections right now, and I think it’s going pretty well so far,” said Jaynie Jespersen. “I’m pretty excited.”
As a junior last season, Jespersen was a first-team All-Central Valley Conference and a 6A Honorable Mention selection and finished the year with 357 digs. The experience, said Jespersen, was a good one as she got a taste of what it takes to be a leader going into this season.
“It was fun. It really got my role going early, so that was nice. I just want to continue to push the younger girls to be the best for themselves,” said Jespersen.
With one more week of Summer League, West Salem will look to sharpen their connections going into Try-Outs in August and building that team bond before the season kicks off September 4 against North Salem at home.
“Just building our connections because we got new hitters, new setters,” said Jespersen.
