SWEET HOME, Ore.– Blanchet’s Bella Vargas made the most of her four events at the Meet of Champions on Saturday afternoon at Sweet Home High School.
By the end of the Meet, the sophomore had place in each one of her events: Long Jump, Triple Jump, the 100 and 200 meters. Placing second in the Long Jump, Fourth in the Triple Jump and in each the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.
In the 200-meter dash, her final event of the meet, she PR’d with a time of 27.18 seconds.
“This was my second time running it this year, I haven’t ran it since seventh or eighth grade,” Vargas said of the 200-meter dash. “I think I did pretty good, I could have done better in Long. I recently jumped 17-(Feet)-11-(inches) last year and I was trying to break 18 today, but my knee didn’t let me. It’s fine, I’ll get it next week.”
Vargas finished second in the Long Jump, finishing with a jump of 16-feet-8-inches. For the sophomore, it’s just a matter of the mental side of the event that will help her crack that 18-foot mark this season.
Angel Vargas Guerrero finished third in the 100-meter dash. Carson Smith finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles. Deontae Washinton finished second in the 300-meter hurdles with Calvin Tinglead finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles
The Blanchet 4×100 meter relay team finished second as a team. James Barnett finished second in the Shot Put and Discus. Adam Barnett finished third in the High Jump and the Triple Jump. Joe Barra and Carson Smith went second-third in the Pole Vault event.
“Just focusing on just sending it. I think about it too much and that’s the deal, I think about it too much. Just focusing,” said Vargas.
