SWEET HOME, Ore.–   For one last time, Santiam’s Colt Twede took part in the Meet of Champions.
Saturday marked the second time that the Wolverine senior has made it to the big time 1A-4A Meet at Sweet Home High School.  Twede qualifying last season in the Shot Put, finishing 15th.
But this year, he improved on his finish.  Finishing sixth, behind four 4A throwers and one 3A thrower to place.
“It’s been such a great experience to be out here with some of the best throwers in Oregon.  It’s a dream come true for me because I’ve always wanted to come and compete here since I was a freshman.  And now that I’m here, it’s amazing,” Twede said of the Meet.
For Twede.  To represent the community as he had.  It’s been an amazing experience and ride as he turns his focus to trying to get to Hayward Field one last time.
“It’s been amazing.  Santiam’s a great school.  It’s been my family’s school since my dad been alive, it’s amazing  The community and everything,” said Twede.
For Twede, getting back to Hayward is the goal.  He finished sixth as a sophomore in the Shot Put and then second in the event last year.  The drive hasn’t faltered, and now in the twilight of his High School career, he’s hoping to add another trip to the State Podium in the Shot Put come season’s end.
“The way I’ll get there again is to train harder, lock-in and only focus on Shot Put and the event you’re trying to do,” starts Twede.  “The experience there is amazing.  Everyone is super nice, everything is ran super well.”
Ace Aerni (Long Jump, 13th-place finish and 100-meter dash, 18th), Kellen Crofoot (300-meter hurdles, tenth-place finish and 110-meter hurdles, 23td) and Absyde Bilyeu (1,500 meter race, 17th-place finish) all took part in the Meet of Champions and represented Santiam in Sweet Home on Saturday.
