COOS BAY, Ore.– For the third-straight year, the Amity Girls Basketball are heading to the 3A State Finals.
The win came on the heels of a 40–32 victory over Banks on Friday night, a rematch of last season’s state championship game that the Warriors also won for their first state title last March.
Defense was the vocal point. Their offense showcased their patience and it aided them to victory.
“It was all defense, that was our plan. We knew if we could defend, if we could stop them from scoring…we had to stop them on the other side. And we were so patient on offense. We got out on transition and if it wasn’t there, we slowed down. Adie (Nisly) and Eliza (Nisly), they did so great tonight penetrating the defense and getting open looks,” said Alyssa McMullen.
The Nisly twins of Adie and Eliza led the offense, combining for 25 points in the win. Adie led Amity with 13 points, Eliza adding another 12 as the Warriors will look to repeat as State Champions when they face Vale on Saturday night at 8pm.
It’s a rematch from a game from earlier this season where the Vikings defeated the Warriors 31-27 at the Crusader Classic in Salem. That first match-up taught them a lot on what they need to work on, like transitioning and sticking to their strength of playing fast.
“I’m really thankful for that game and that we lost because it really showed us what we need to work on…which we figured out was transitioning and not letting teams force us to playing their style.” said Adie Nisly. “We got to play our style which is fast.”
Tip-off is slated for 8pm at Marshfield High School.
