SILVERTON, Ore.–  Five total Silverton players scored in their 5A State Playoff opener Tuesday night that saw the Foxes defeat Hood River Valley 7-1 to advance to the Round of 8 on Saturday.
Led by Marley Wertz’ Hat Trick, Silverton also saw Braelyn Walter, Lillian Miller and Danika Lashley and Ashtyn Wentworth all scoring in the victory on Tuesday.  Four, being Walter, Miller, Wertz and Lashley, scored in the opening forty minutes as the Foxes came out aggressive and fast against the Eagles.
That intensity is something that they’ll hope to carry over to Saturday’s 5A State Quarterfinal round on the road against Summit.
“I think we came out with unreal energy.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen us play with that kind of intensity before and I’m beyond proud of this team for how much we wanted it and it showed that we would really fight for anything,” said Wertz.  “We just played with amazing energy and communication and everyone giving our 110-percent effort we’ll really pull together as a team and be able to pull out the win.”
Of note, Wertz cracked the 50 career goal mark with her third goal of the night and is one goal away from tying the All-Time record in program history   A feat she could possibly do Saturday on the road.
“It’s really cool, but I seriously couldn’t do it without all my offense and my teammates.  It’s really a team thing and I think them the most for giving me that opportunity,” said Wertz.
