STAYTON, Ore.– Saturday afternoon’s victory was a longtime coming for the Regis Football team.
It’s been ten long games, October 4,2024, against Glide since their last victory. They battled through the adversity of being a young team. They battled through the adversity of losing their Head Coach, Joe Manibusan had to step away from the program a few weeks in due to a health emergency and assistant coach Casey Lulay has stepped in as interim Head Coach until Manibusan gets healthy.
But through it all, Saturday’s 55-0 victory on Homecoming was a great feeling for the young Regis squad on this day.
“It’s been pretty nice to see the team together, we fought good as a team, and we got some tackles. we got some touchdowns. We overcame all the adversity this season with losing a coach, and we did everything right, we did great today,” said Korben Schumacher.
Five Regis players scored in Saturday’s victory. Owen Eaton, Hayden Lulay, Holden Lulay, Hudson Mumey, and Andrew Hawley also scored in the victory. Hawley scored three in the victory as the Rams will look to make it two-in-a-row on Friday against Santiam in Mill City.
“It’s been a lot of growing as we go, learning on the run and adapting to what’s happening on the field. We’re definitely a young team, but everyone’s growing into their shoes and playing,” said Eaton. “Just continuing to play our brand of football and just being us, knowing our identity and battling adversity as it comes and just being us.”
The Rams wraps up the regular season on Halloween against St. Paul at home.
