SALEM, Ore.– The Chemeketa Community College Men’s Soccer team had their chances against Rogue Community College of Medford on Saturday afternoon.
The first half saw the Storm create offensive opportunities. Two literally just missing its mark with one hitting the top crossbar with another on a one-v-one, that sailed just to the left of the far post, that left the game tied at zero going into the halftime break.
The Chemeketa defense continued its dominance, despite their struggles with injuries this Fall overall as a team, the Storm entered the game by only allowing eight goals in conference and 12 goals in ten games. North Salem-grad Joshua Vargas collected three saves, but the Osprey took advantage of a foul in the box on Saturday to score on a Penalty Kick in the 59th minute.
It was the lone goal scored in the 1-0 Rogue victory in Salem. A bittersweet result to an otherwise strong performance by Chemeketa in the NWAC South Region game.
“We kept working until the end. We were all working hard as a team,” said South Salem’s Tristan Olvera.”We just got to keep working hard and keep building. Just fix our mistakes roo and look forward. Stay positive. That’s all we can do now.”
“Honestly, I felt like we tried our best, especially being a man-down. It’s been an unfortunate season with so many injuries and little mistakes that we do, but we just keep fighting as a team and just keep working for each other,” adds McKay-grad David Garcia. “It was unfortunate with the penalty. Without that, I think we would have tied.”
The Storm wraps up the season with a home game on October 25 against Southwestern Oregon Community College and ending the season October 29 at Portland.
