SALEM, Ore.– Basketball has been life for South Salem’s Chica Casas. Her family history in the sport has influenced the incoming senior throughout her life. They acted as positive influences for Casas, in particular, her father, who Casas credits in helping her game out. They instilled hard work, determination, and dedication to the craft.
And entering her final season, Casas won the Central Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors as a junior as a member of the West Salem Girls Basketball Program.
“I always looked up to them and watched them play,” starts Casas. “My dad, he’s always helped me and taught me a lot of things. He always practices with me,” said Casas. “Family history, all my family has played basketball, and it just means a lot.
“I’m really thankful I got that, and it just felt amazing,” Casas adds to winning CVC Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Now, with her new team, having played in a few Summer Basketball games thus far with the Saxons, Casas is hoping to leave her mark with her new team before graduating.
“Just working hard. Whenever we don’t have practice and be closer to my teammates,” said Casas.
