DAYTON, Ore.–After experiencing the Hayward experience from the sidelines as an alternative on the Amity 4×100 meter relay team last Spring, Warrior senior Saralynn Grove will get to experience Hayward Field as a participant after finishing second in the Javelin at the 3A Special District 3 District Meet at Dayton High School.
It was a pleasant surprise for Grove when she found out she finished second because the Senior thought she was sitting third before finding out thar she qualified thanks to her PR throw of 112-feet-three-inches during the first day of the District Meet on Friday.
“I’m excited.  I’m a little nervous because it’s a big stadium, but I’m excited,” said Grove.  “Usually, to control my nerves I pray about it a lot, I pray about it a lot.  So continuing to do that and knowing that I made that and do my best since I’m already there.  I can definitely work on my progression and my blocking, my finish.”
In Boys Javelin, Kiyan Vrell picked up his third-straight Javelin District Title, taking the District Title with a throw of 185-feet-5-inches
After a mid-season lull, Vrell has slowly crept up his Javelin numbers just in time for the District Meet and the State Meet.
“It’s great.  You don’t want that big mark in the middle of the season, so it’s nice to see it gradually going up and hopefully next week it’ll go up even more and get a big throw,” said Vrell.
Mya Haarsma (100-meter), Haley Miersma (200-meter).  Miersma also finished District Runner-Up in the 200-meter dash to qualify for the State Meet.  Trenton Ruston and Bradley Sexton went one-two in the 400-meter race to qualify for State.  The Amity 4×100 meter relay team once again broke their school record as they won the District Title with a time of 49.90.  Brody Horne finished District Runner-Up in the Shot Put.
Vrell, Mason Rosenast, and Jaxson Howard went two, three, and four in the Discus to qualify for State.  Miersma and Vrell each qualified for State in the Long Jump, respectively.
