STAYTON, Ore.– Amity’s Brody Horne let out a noise of excitement after his final throw in the Shot Put at the Regis Twilight Meet on Friday afternoon.
The final throw for the Warrior senior: 49-feet-7-inches. Not just a PR for Horne, but breaking the school record in the event as well. The throw also helped Horne win the event by about 17 inches.
It’s just part of that drive that Horne has, to always better himself day-in and day-out to break records and leaving a lasting mark as part of the Amity Track and Field program.
“I’ve just been consistently working at it. Consistently wanting to work at breaking my own record, it’s what led to me doing that,” Horne said. “I just try as hard as I can every day. I am working out every day at the gym, always bettering myself at practice so I can do better at the meet.”
With Districts coming up this next week at Dayton High School, Horne knows that the receipt for success has been there and he’s not planning on changing it as he chases more records and one more State Meet push here in a few days.
“Just keep doing what I’ve been doing,” he said.
Earlier in the meet, the Amity 4×100 meter relay team broke their school record last Spring at the District meet by 0.10 of a second at the Regis Twilight Meet. Running the relay in 50.18 seconds, good for second-place behind Westside Christian.
The squad, that features Adie Nisly, Eliza Nisly, Haley Miersma and Mya Haarsma are just getting healthy going into the District Meet as the four are hoping for a District Winning performance and a place in the 3A State Race here in a few weeks.
“It’s been great for us, we’ve been hurt for the majority of the season….so it’s a really good confidence booster that we’re back to where we want to be,” said Haarsma.
“It’s exciting,” adds Miersma. “Our handoffs were good. We were all running fast, and we pushed through the whole thing.”
Miersma won the 100-meter dash. Trenton Ruston finished eighth in the 200-meter dash. Ruston and Bradley Sexton finished third and fifth respectively in the 400 meters. Saralynn Grove finished eighth in the 300-meter hurdles, Grove also finished sixth in the Javelin. Kiyan Vrell and Mason Rosenast finished second and fifth in the Discus. Vrell also won the Javelin with a throw of 178-feet-7-inches and finished fourth in the Long Jump.
