SALEM, Ore.–The recent Snow Days didn’t slow down Sprague one bit when they tipped it off with McNary Friday evening.
The Olympians started the game on a 16-0 run and held the Celtics scoreless until the 3:13 mark of the first quarter. Their speed, their length, their aggression sparked them to start the game. Something that they turned back to in the third quarter after the Celtics got it back to within ten late in the first half.
“It felt great, especially not having any practices the day before. It felt awesome to jump on a team the third time in league,” said Sprague’s Jarrod Stanley. “(McNary’s) a physical team, the past few times we’ve played them we’ve been down at half, so we knew we had to get on them early and make sure they don’t build that lead up that we can’t catch up. So we had everyone dialed in.’
McNary clawed back, having the game to ten twice in the second quarter and trailed 30-19 at halftime. But consistency plaqued the Celts as they struggled to overcome the ebb-and-flow of Sprague’s grip in the Central Valley Conference game.
Sprague extended their lead 42-26 late in the third quarter and led 44-30 after three quarters. From there, the Olympians continued to control the game as they polished off what would be a 63-42 victory Friday night.
“We knew that it was going to be a tough game from the start, and we just wanted to play and never let down until it’s zero-zero,” said McNary’s Steven Adams. “We just got to be ready next time, we started real badly down 14-0, so next time, we just got to come out ready and play our game.”
Adams led the Celtics with 18 points, and Anthony Fuentes scored another nine for McNary. The Celtics will host North Salem on Tuesday
Stanley led the Olympians with 17 points, Anthony Best contributed another 15 points for Sprague, who will head to play South Salem on Tuesday.
