AMITY, Ore.– Amity Head Coach Jed McMullen alluded to their games with Jefferson on Tuesday and Philomath on Wednesday as a ‘Mini Coos Bay’. Both the Lions and the Warriors entered this week ranked in the Top 5 of their respective classifications, Jefferson was fifth going into PacWest Conference game while Philomath entered Wednesday’s game ranked second in 4A.
McMullen pointed towards it being like a ‘Mini Coos Bay’ in that you’ll have to respond within a 24-hour window against another top team.
Coming off of their ten-point win against the Lions on Tuesday at Jefferson, Amity had that challenge of that: To Respond. And they did just that.
There was no fatigue. There was no let-down or rust from their previous battle. It was as if they hit that reset button and went back to work and were ready to go for the 4A Warriors.
“We brought it, the kids brought it, we were ready to go. We didn’t at all seem tired. Coos Bay, it’s 24 hours later, you better be ready to go. There’s no time to be tired and to think about that, we brought it tonight for sure,” said McMullen of his team. “We’re feeling like we’re playing our best basketball right now. Every game, I feel like we’re getting just a little bit better. I just got to keep doing that. Get a little better every day.”
Amity jumped out to a 22-9 lead after one quarter and didn’t let Philomath get comfortable on both sides of the ball. Their offensive intensity was there, and so was their defensive intensity as they led by 18 and 19 at halftime and entering the fourth quarter, respectively. By game’s end, the Warriors took the game 59-37 for their 24th-straight win for a 24-0 record going into their season finale against Dayton on Friday.
“These two teams have helped us build up our defense and our offense and getting things going. Slow down on offense, got up on defense, got in their heads,” said Haley Miersma.
Alyssa McMullen led the squad with 15 points with Eliza Nisly (12) and Saralynn Grove (11) each scored in double-figures for the Warriors
