AURORA, Ore.– The last two-plus weeks of official practice on the heels of off-season work for the North Marion Football team have been laying the foundation for what is to coming this year
Huskies Head Coach Matt Arnold spoke towards culture change, and there were glimpses of it.
As practice was drawing to a close, senior Kohl Cox was helping one of his fellow linemen out through a drill. Though battling an injury, Cox, one of North Marion’s senior captains this year, wanted to make sure his voice was still heard.
“I think i have one of the more louder voices on the team, so when I can get everyone going, they listen to a loud voice, so if I come in there with a loud voice and a lot of energy, a lot of guys want to feed off of that and builds us as one team and we’ll play a lot better football, ” said Cox.
The intensity of practice has increased under first-year Head Coach Matt Arnold. Arnold has wants 100 percent out of his players, and the energy has been there for the positive, and the players have fed off of jt.
“Last year. I feel like a lot of people caught themselves dogging on one another. But this year, it reels more like a family. I haven’t heard one person dog on another person,” said Elijah Short.
Short is coming off an ankle injury suffered three weeks into the season and is expected to contribute once again at Quarterback. Short, Short, and Lucas Fowler are the three seniors expected to help lead the Huskies this Fall, the season starting Friday at Cottage Grove.
“It’s been the biggest three weeks of the season so far since we started Manatory Practices three weeks ago. We lock in when we get here, the two-and-a-half, three hours that we’re here we lock in. We’ve been learning a lot and ge5ting better,” said Fowler.
