SILVERTON, Ore.– South Albany’s Colin Cordle was not aware of the feat that he had accomplished against Silverton Friday night. To him, his 48-point gane just felt like another day at the office and trying to help the Redhawks win the ballgame that they were in.
And on Friday night, it was truly one of those dogfights. Most teams in a season may witness a Overtime battle in a season, maybe a rare double overtime game.
Double overtime wasn’t enough. Neither was triple or quadruple overtime. It took quintuple overtime to decide a winner between South Albany and the Foxes. That’s five overtimes, an extra 20 minutes of war on top of the 32 that they just completed in regulation.
It challenged both teams to stay with it. To stay with it mentally, physically, and emotionally as they just kept finding ways to remain even at the end of every overtime period.
“When my teammates told me I had 48, I was so shocked because that game was such a team effort . It took every single one of us to win that game. Five overtimes, I can’t even walk right now,” said Cordle. “Tonight’s win was huge. Our goal as a team is to win that conference championship, and tonight was another step towards that goal, we just got to keep going and keep pushing.
“We got to stay together as a team and play together. Yeah, sure, the personal stuff is cool, but we all have that one goal, and that is the Conference Championship. That’s all I want.”
A late push in the fifth overtime helped South Albany over the top to force a three-way tie for first between them, West Albany and Woodburn ontop of the Mid-Willamette Conference Conference going into the final week of January.
Silverton, who’s in a two-way tie for second with Crescent Valley at 4-3 in league play, we’re led by Brody Kuenzi’s 23 points as five Foxes scdouble-figures.
