STAYTON, Ore.– Regis just got after it Wednesday evening to open the season against Crosshill Christian.
With intensity, the Rams were able to slowdown the Eagles by tying up jump balls, running for rebounds and doing whatever they could to stay ahead of Crosshill in both teams season-opener.
It helped Regis build a 17-11 halftime lead and aided the Rams to a 34-26 lead midway through the fourth quarter before the Eagles began to chip away.
Encouraging one another was the key for Regis as they were looking for their first win under Tim Manning.
“It was really big and it helped build us up when we were behind,”said the Rams Olivia Adams.  “Encouraging when we were behind and hustling to the ball.”
And that encouragement had to come in when they needed it the most.
Sierra Poush scored eight of the games next 13 points to help Crosshill pull ahead 38-37 with 1:28 remaining in the game.  But back-to-back turnovers that led to back-to-back Adam baskets helped the Rams pull back ahead 41-38 with a minute left.  The Regis defense made it difficult for Crosshill to make the tying shot and force overtime as they closed out the tough three-point victory.
“At the end of the day we just had too many errors.  We took the lead with a minute-a-half to go and we immediately give it back with two lay-ups off two turnovers ,” said CrosshillHead Coach Kevin Baker.  “The girls will improve, we’ll get better taking care of the Basketball.   We were just a little sloppy with the ball,  it’s first game jitters.”
Hadley Foster led the Rams with 13 points, Adams contributed 12 and Mylah Etzel scored 10 for Regis.  Zoey Baker scores 12 points and Poush contributed ten for the Eagles.
