HILLSBORO, Ore. — The Amity Girls Soccer team’s defense was faced with one last challenge to close out the 2025 3A/2A/1A season Saturday afternoon at Liberty High School.
And once again, as they did Tuesday against Creswell, the Warriors rose to the occasion, clutched up to ensure that they brought home that Blue Trophy in their first trip to the State Championship.
“It carried over from Creswell, we knew what to do. They played really hard, our defense did a great job shutting down Valley Catholic,” said Kylie Wilson.
Wilson, in her final game as Amity Goalkeeper, made ten saves in the game. Eight coming in regulation as Valley Catholic just bombarded her and the Amity defense with consistent pressure after they, the Valiants, tied the game up at 1 in the 16th minute.
Haley Miersma scored the first goal of the game eight minutes prior to hand the Warriors the brief 1-0 lead.
But nonetheless, as the pressure grew, halftime into the second half, then into overtime, the Warriors just found ways to get stops defensively. Their offense, after what felt like a slow start to the game after Miersma’s goal, came around in the two overtime periods and they were putting the pressure on Valley Catholic to keep them from scoring.
Communication was key for the Warriors in their consistency and resiliency in Saturday’s game as the game ultimately came down to Penalty Kicks to decide the State Champion.
“We really had to communicate today and we knew that they were a tough team, they were a good team. We had to hold it strong, keep our line and keep strong,” said Ulloa.
The pressure of the PK round was there. Both teams made their first kick.
Eliza Nisly made hers for the Warriors, Calista Everson made hers for the Valiants.
But then, that’s when Amity began to pull away.
Miersma made hers in Round 2. Valley missed their shot. Adie Nisly put the Warriors ahead 3-1, to see a Wilson stop.
Just needing one more goal to win it, Ulloa came up.
Nerves were there for the junior, but she put it aside and nailed the game-winning goal to hand the Warriors their first-ever State Title in Girls Soccer.
“Me personally, I’ve never been in a PK situation. I’ve never taken a PK, it was a lot of pressure and I was nervous, but I helped my team,” said Ulloa of the goal. “(This win) is unreal, I’m so proud of everybody, I’m so proud of my goalie, I’m proud of my coaches and I love my team so much.”
For this senior group, their ten seniors, they leave Amity leaving the program as a established State Playoff program and now they leave it as State Champions.
“It’s crazy, especially to have our community behind us is great. We feel the support and we know that everyone loves us, we’re just happy to celebrate it with them,” said Wilson.
The Warriors finish the year 17-1-1 and with an 18-game unbeaten streak.
