SALEM, Ore.–  A week ago at the Wilsonville Invitational, Cascade’s Lilly Pickett achieved one of her goals this season and broke the school record in the 400-meter dash.  Pickett ran the event with a time of 57.83, good for second place in the event.
It was a pleasant surprised for the Cougar senior when she saw the time flash up, and she realized she had done it and broke the school record.
“It was so amazing, I crossed the finish line and saw 57.83  flash on the screen. I was about to cry. It was so exciting,” said Pickett of the feat.
On this Saturday, Pickett was back on the track at the Titan Track Classic at West Salem High School, where she came away with another victory in the 400-meter race with a time of 58.82.  The meet will help her in preparation for the Meet of Champions next Saturday in Sweet Home as well as setting her up for the long run in preparation for the 4A State Meet here in a few weeks.
“This meet…it’s just preparing me for the Meet of Champions.  It puts you in the mindset of trying to push myself,” Pickett said.  “It will help tremendously.  It will give me the pressure I need to run hard on myself and have the competition to push myself as well.”
The Cougars also saw Liam Brewer win the Discus and finish second in the Shot Put.  Blake Baker finishes fifth in the High Jump with a PR jump of 5-feet-8-inches.
Makenna Burns finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, and the Cascade 4×100 meter relay team won the event.  Kalina Saechao won the Shot Put and finished second in the Discus, and Olivia Frizelle finished fourth in the Javelin.
