Several local Salem-area teams took part in tournaments this past weekend to kick off the 2025 calendar year. Here’s a Round-Up:
Paul/Larson Invitational
The South Salem Girls Wrestling team won the team title as Taya Stovall won the 133-146 weight class. Dennece LaMothe also won the 178-190 weight class. Diana Burnell finished second at 120-124 as the Saxons saw 13 wrestlers’ place.
Boys Tournament
McKay’s Sebastian Romero (113)Yair Suarez (126) and Aiden Ojeda (190) all won Individual Titles.
Bob Gibson
Girls Tournament
Scio’s Kayla Borregard (125/130), Gervais’ Ksenia Zepeda (155/170), won titles. Regis saw Mary Lynn McSorley (110) and Ruby Miller (155/170), Willamina’s Kelsea Gray (115), and Paige Baker (190/235) all finished second.
Amity’s Cristal Martinez (100/105) and Tegan Braun (140/145) Sheridan’s Peylinn Childress (110)Regis’ MaryBeth Nusom (135) and Willamina’s Sadie Risseeuw (155/170) all finished third in their respective weight classes.
Boys Tournament
Willamina’s Zoe Brewer won the 106-pound title. Scio’s Zander Cate (113) and Colton Medeiros (165) Willamina’s Adonijah Stanton (132) won Individual Titles. Willamina’s Shaun Jones (144), Devin Huston (157), Finnian Clemans (175), and Landon Risseeuw (215) also won titles. Sheridan’s Joseph Trammell also won the 285 weight class.
Dallas’ Alexander Nunez (106), Willamina’s Grayson Hubbard (120), Eden Stanton (126), Jacob Bazzy (138)Cameron Russell (150) and Bodhi Baller (190) all finished second. Scio’s Logan Zosel (165) also finished second.
The Big John
Dallas’ Marissa McGinnis (100),Polly Olliff (115), and Lindsey Faulkner (130) all won Individual Titles. Silverton’s McKayla Bonham (125) andNova Graham (145), Central’s Liliana Alvarez (135), North Marion’s Chloe Comerford (140) and Ambar Benito (190) as well as North Salem’s Jennifer Soto (235) all won Individual Titles.
Sprague’s Chaya Palomo (100), Woodburn’s Emily Brown (110), Silverton’s Brooklyn Smith (115) Cascade’s Nevaeh Hampton (120), North Salem’s Yasmin Pastrana (125), Silverton’s Sayler Graham (130), Woodburn’s Lola Jennings (140), North Salem’s Saira Vipperman (145), Dallas’Gabriella Dyer (155), Sprague’s Evelyn Wirfs (170), Dallas’ Mahala Collins (190) and Cascade’s Chelsea Howard (235) all finished second
MHS Your Space Storage Tournament
Cascade’s Hans Kamm (144), Silverton’s Bo Zucher (175) as well as the Foxes Brash Henderson (215) all won Individual Titles. Cascade’s Brody Copple (150)Matthew Hinkle (215) and Nicholas Lopez (285) all finished second.
Southridge Tournament
The McNary Boys Wrestling team finished second of 17 teamd with Luis Martinez, taking first at 106, and Derek Jones was second at 120. David Ramirez Serra (126), Christian Pineda (157), Jesse Mendoza Falcon (215) All took 3rd in their weight class.
