TURNER, Ore.– Kaiden Ford has been on a mission to start his senior year with the Cascade Boys Basketball team.
The first game out of the gate, against Amity, Ford, scored 45 points. He followed that up with a 40-point game against Cottage Grove. And though his last two games, a 28-point performance against Astoria on Friday and a 27-point performance Tuesday against 5A Bend, weren’t 40-point games, but Ford is doing whatever he can to help his team stay in it. And it’s paid off thus far.
“Yeah, I knew Landon (Knox) wasn’t going to be available the first couple of games, so I’m just trying to step into that role and be a leader of the team. My teammates just trust me, finding the ball for me and just playing as a team, and it just worked out in the end,” Ford said. “Just making the right plays, just keep doing what I’m capable of, and I know my teammates will find me, so just keep doing that.”
The Cougars are off to a 4-0 start to the year under first-year Head Coach BJ Dobrkovsky following their 72-54 victory over the Lava Bears, but Cascade’s undefeated record will be put to the test Wednesday when they head to Stayton to play 2A Regis.
But it is just another opportunity to improve for the Cougars moving forward into the season.
“This is a great start. We’re just looking at each game, we’re playing for wins, but we’re just looking at the game forward, and I’m just glad that we started off this hot,” said Ford.
Knox, in his first game back, scored 17 points for Cascade. Bryce May scored 14 points as well for the Cougars.Cash Hattenhauer led Bend with 25 points.
