SALEM, Ore.– The Salem Academy offense didn’t see much work, but they capitalized when they had their opportunities on Wednesday evening against Westside Christian.
With two counterattacks, the Crusaders were able to net two goals with Jenna Greenwood (eighth minute) and Madilyn Meadows (58th minute) in their 2-0 victory. Those goals were crucial as the Salem Academy defense were faced with constant pressure by the Eagle offense, those goals gave their defense room to breathe and confidence to work.
With three games left in the regular season, two against playoff-caliber teams in Yamhill-Carlton and Blanchet, Wednesday’s game served as a good tune-up in preparation for those games
“Those (goals) were so important for our team mentality and our comradery. Those two goals brought the spirit back up and lifted up the whole team, it helped us settle down a little bit and it really turned the whole game. It helped us calm down and play good soccer,” said Meadows of the goals. “Our defense worked so hard, and our keeper too. They worked so hard as a unit. They were under so much pressure tonight, so whenever we could get it up high, it was so beneficial for our whole team and it helped us reset and stay centered.”
Salem Academy will host Gervais/Kennedy on Friday for a 3pm game in a non-league game before hosting Blanchet on Tuesday.
