SALEM, Ore.–  South Salem-grad Gavin Price has been on a tear.
Entering Thursday night’s West Coast League series finale with the Bend Elks, Price has batted .294 with 2RBI’s and drew four walks in five games with the Marion Berries.
Coming off his freshman year at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, an NCAA Division-I school, where he played in four games for the Warhawks, he’s hoping to bridge this past Spring into next Spring.
“It’s pretty big, just to have fun and apply the things that I’ve learned so I can carry that into next season and next Summer as well,” starts Price.
“It was very different, but it was really fun though meeting all the new guys and stuff.  It was great to learn from all the returners and all the new guys.  I learned a lot about the game from learning from that, it was awesome,” the 2024 Saxon-grad adds about UL-Monroe.
Price is having a little bit of a South Salem reunion as he’s playing with Noah Scharer and Sawyer Nelson, playing with the two on the diamond once more as well as some former opponents in Sprague’s Taylor Brenneman and Andrew Mhoon.
“We’ve all grown in different ways, it’s pretty cool to see where we all come from and where we’re at now,” said Price.  Playing with Sawyer (Nelson) and Noah (Scharer) again, is a lot of fun just to do it with those guys.”
As for playing with the local squad on the Marion Berries, it’s been fun points Price so far a few games into the season.
“It’s so much fun seeing the stands packed out every game, playing with all my guys, it’s a lot of fun,” said Price.

In Thursday’s 11-9, West Coast League series sweeping victory over Bend, Price went 1-for-3  and drew a walk for the Berries.
