NEWBERG, Ore.– It was one of those games where you had to be mentally locked in and ready to go. A good old fashioned pitchers duel for the Lady Dragons 16B to close out Pool Play at the NAFA Nationals in Newberg.
In their 3-1 victory over the Washington Thunder, Central’s Tawney Snair went the game pitching, allowing just three hits and striking out 11 batters.
As strongly as she pitched during the first five innings of the game, where she held her Washington opposition to one-hit, it was the sixth where she had to clutch up.
It was 3-0 at this point and slowly the Thunder began to time out Snair and found the gaps with two sixth inning hits to go with two walks. They pushed a run across, but the Lady Dragons were able to close out the game with limited damage to end pool play 3-0
“It’s good to know that I have a good defense behind me and I definitely have that,” said Snair of that sixth inning. “Our energy definitely plays a part with all of us talking to each other and staying together as one. Just having that faith and hope that we do have this and keeping that energy up os a big thing.”
Snair pitched an inning-and-two-thirds in the first game of the day, a 14-5 victory over the NW Mayham 16U. Emery Lushenko hit a three-run Home Run as her and Peyton Crowe each drove in 4RBIs on that opening game.
