STAYTON, Ore.–  The R9 Preps squad rallied in Game two of their doubleheader with the Post 58 Crushers American Legion Triple-A squad on Tuesday.
They jumped out to a 6-0 lead on the Crushers going into the bottom half of the first inning before Post 58 cut the lead in half going into the third inning.  R9 locked in down the stretch though,  turning what was a 6-3 lead into an 16-5 victory in six innings.  The Albany based squad scored 10 of the games final 12 runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
“It felt good because that first game, we did not do too great.  Second game we started hot with a great first inning.  We played a good team game in the second game,” said Landry Jensen.
Jensen, a Newberg player, drove in 2RBI’s and had two hits in the second game.  Kaden Eli led the R9 Preps squad with three hits and 2RBI’s in the first game.
For Post 58, they held on to take game one of the series 5-4 on Tuesday.  Stayton’s Liam Brown went the distance with six strikeouts and Myles Emmert drove in 2RBI’s with two hits in that opening game.
It was the consistency that hurt them in the doubleheader, but having played nine games in eight days, some of it could stem from fatigue as well as they enter their Fourth of July break before another nine game-in-eight day stretch to close out the regular season.
“It’s just been great.  The team is just starting to put together really well and play as a team.  Most of us haven’t played together, it’s been great getting to know a lot of the guys and it helped with a lot of communication and putting it together in the field,” said Emmert.
Post 58 will play at Mountain View on July 9 while the R9 Preps squad will be at the Top Tier College Showcase on July 9.
