SCIO, Ore.– Last year, in the last game of the season against Blanchet Catholic, Scio’s Colton Medeiros eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing total. Joining roughly 21 others, per the OSAA record book, Logger rushers who have surpassed 1K in yardage in a single-season.
And now, entering his senior year with Scio, Medeiros is entering this last Summer, this last ride confident that the run game that Scio has built their names on through the generations will come through once again once the games start really counting.
“Oh it’s cool, I’m definitely more confident in our line and our run game…we got a lot of our line returning…All the other guys returning, just building up the younger guys and helping us push the ball down the middle and all that stuff is great,” said Medeiros, who was a first-team All-Conference selection at Running Back.
Medeiros, and the Scio running game took a breather on Monday night as the Loggers got to work on their passing game a little bit and their pass defense when they hosted Lebanon at home for some 7-on-7 action.
Going up against a Warrior squad that competed in one of Oregon’s toughest leagues in the Mid-Willamette Conference alongside Silverton and Dallas gave them a measuring stick for where they stand as a skill-position group.
“Everything starts with the fundamentals. You got to get the fundamentals down and 7-on-7’s like this helps us get a real look against an actual opponent instead of going up against your teammates,” said LeBard.
On defense, Medeiros points towards the success that they as a defensive strongside had in limiting Lebanon’s successes in the air. Something they’ll look to continue to build upon going into Team Camp and beyond in the coming weeks.
“It definitely helps getting the confidence rolling…It makes me feel great with our safety, our back safety and me at Linebacker, it feels great knowing that we’re the strong side and we got it covered,” said Medeiros.
Scio will continue to put in the work in preparation for their Week 1 game against Warrenton on September 4 at home.
