STAYTON, Ore.– After just missing that nine-foot mark last year as a junior, Perrydale’s Greta Fillible has finally hit that mark. Doing so the first meet of the year up at McMinnville and has since hit the mark four times, including Friday. Her best jump came May 9 in St. Paul when she set the school record at 9-feet-3-inches.
Fillible came close in breaking the school record again on Friday at the Regis Twilight Meet in Stayton, nearly clearing 9-feet-6-inches, but just couldn’t clear it. Nonetheless, with the District Meet coming up this next week, Fillible is looking towards how she can improve to make it happen in the next meet.
“I just need to work on looking up. The problem is that I keep looking at the bar and at my feet. I’m borrowing a pole, and since it’s longer I think it’s going to help me get higher,” Fillible said. “It’s a really complex sport, Pole Vault, and there’s so many things you have to do and you have to get everything perfect.
“This meet was pretty helpful because I’m trying to constantly keep getting nine-feet. It also made me realize that I can get higher, so I’m pretty confident to being able to win my District.”
Patrick Fox finished tenth in the Discus. Braydon Lesli finished seventh in the Javelin with a PR throw of 135-feet-10-inches. McKenzie Freeborn finished 11th in the High Jump and 18th in the 100-meter dash.
