SILVERTON, Ore.– The defense of Silverton really came through in the clutch during Saturday’s doubleheader with Willamette.
Coming off a tough stretch against some quality squads, the Foxes defeated the Wolverines 9-3, 17-2 to build some momentum for Monday’s Mid-Willamette Conference game against Corvallis behind a sharper defensive performance.
“We played cleaner defense today, the pitchers were on today. Brynnlee (Dallisky) and Easton (Rains), they’ve been pitching well. Our defense has let us down. We got momentum for Monday. Just clean up our defense, pitcher’s hit your spots and we go from there. I’m happy with them,” said Silverton Head Coach Ralph Cortez.
Daillsky pitched a three inning one-hitter in Game 2, the Foxes scoring ten third inning runs to end the game by mercy-rule. Rains pitched seven innings in Game 1, striking out three to pace the Foxes defense in the pair of wins.
Offensively, Lexington Rains launched a solo home run, while Jeersee Sutton drove in a team-high seven RBIs across the doubleheader, helping Silverton enter league play at 6–5. Battle-tested against strong opponents like Sunset, La Salle Prep and West Linn, the Foxes have gained a clearer sense of their potential as they prepare for the gauntlet of Mid-Willamette Conference play.
“It shows these young laters where they could be. I think we did a good job competing and trying to get our game in place. Seeing good pitching,” said Cortez of the tough schedule they had.
