PERRYDALE, Ore.– Perrydale put their best foot forward against Heppner/Ione on Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs have long been one of the top teams in 2A/1A, but the Pirates managed to keep them in check through the early innings. Trailing 6–0 in the fourth, the Pirates battled back with four runs to cut the deficit to 6–4 heading into the sixth.
“It definitely boosted our confidence. It definitely helped us out. We just needed more defense to secure it and more offense to come back. Once we correct all that, we’ll be solid and get back in the cages. We’ll be a solid team,” said Perrydale assistant coach Lindsay Gutnher.

Over the last two innings, Heppner/Ione were able to pull away from the Pirates. The Mustangs, who reached the 2A/1A State Playoffs as a quarterfinal, pieced together eight runs late to pull away from the Pirates for the 12-4 victory. Yates led Perrydale with three hits with Brooklynn Barcoft contributed another two hits.
Perrydale willl be at Colton on Wednesday in 2A/1A Special District 2 play.
