SCIO, Ore.– The Scio Softball team faced probably their toughest challenge of the early season Saturday afternoon to close out their doubleheader.
After defeating Glide 18-1 earlier in the day, the Loggers had a tough time finding the offense against North Valley.  In actuality, both teams threatened to score, but it wasn’t until Skylur Brown’s three-run home run in the bottom half of the third inning that really got the ball rolling for the Scio offense.
The Logger offense built on the momentum. Rylee Nelson drove in Scio’s fourth run, and later Cam Dalke hit Scio’s second home run of the game—a three-run shot.  The Loggers led 7-0 at this point.
“It felt good that I could help and start to get us in the right way to progress into what we did,” said Brown.  “It felt great to hit our stride again, because we were flat footed the first three innings and then it finally snowballed into ‘we got this.  We know what to do’.
North Valley got one back in the top half of the fourth inning, but Grace Ferguson kept the Knights bats in check.
The Sophomore got out of several runners in scoring position jams and limited North Valley to three runs in what would become a 12-3 Scio win.
“I definitely trust them.  I know if I put up strikes out above the plate, I know my defense would do their job and get them out.  I think if we can keep hitting the ball and we’ll keep playing defense, we’ll be alright and winning,” said Ferguson.
Ferguson finished with nine strikeouts in the North Valley game.  Mahala Pyle hit a Home Run in the Glide game to start the day on Saturday morning.
