SALEM, Ore.–  McNary’s Jenna Friesen had an interesting match to win the 5A/6A Special District 3 District Title at 145 pounds on Saturday.
The freshman, seeded second, scored a takedown just 21 seconds into the opening round — and those would be the only points for most of the match.  That was, until the third round where she picked up a late reversal on McKay’s Aryana Garcia Vasques 18 seconds left in the match that helped her take the District Championship on this day.
“It felt really good because that girl has beaten me before.  I caught her in my underhook and I had to bail out and it turned out to be a body lock, so it felt good getting that first takedown, it was really refreshing.  It helped me get ready for State by teaching me that I need to be more offensive on top,” said Friesen.  “I got stuck a lot because she’s a lot more stronger than me in some aspects and I wasn’t advancing in some positions, so I think that’s going to help me get ready for State in multiple ways.”
The Celtics finished third as a team at the District Meet on Saturday with Friesen one of three McNary wrestlers who won District Titles.  Marlina Martinez (115) and Unger (155) won their weight classes.  Jacelynn Friesen finished second at 130 pounds to help pace the Celts at the Tournament.
