SWEET HOME, Ore.– Salem Academy’s Noah Dettwyler PR’d in the 110-meter hurdles Saturday afternoon at the Meet of Champions as the rivalry between he and Delphian’s Oli Beauregard renewed for this season.
The Dragon sophomore pushed Dettwyler, and the result was a 15.65 PR time in just Dettwyler’s second 110-meter hurdle’s race of the season.
“He pushed me a lot. He’s so much fun to run with. This was my first race against him this season, so it was great,” Dettwyler said. “This was my second race for 110s this season, and I felt like I’ve come a long way. I’m just trying to make sure I go through every hurdle and getting enough speed in between each hurdle.”
The Crusaders finished tenth as a team at the MOC this Spring on the Boys side of the Meet.Dettwyler finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles and won the 300-meter hurdles. Mateo Schutt finished fourth with a PR jump of 6-feet-2-inches.
The Salem Academy Girls Track and Field team finished eighth as a team. Celia James finished second in the 400-meter race and fifth in the 200-meter dash. Clara Persons finished sixth in the 400-meter race. The Crusaders 4×100 team of Riley Tillery, Persons, Adalin Narvaez, and James finished fifth. The 4×400 meter relay team of Chase Sullivan, Narvaez, Persons, and James finished third. Emma Brewer finished fourth with a jump of 5-feet-even, Brewer also finished eighth in the Triple Jump.
Anchored by James, a State Winner in the 2A 400-meter race last season as a junior, the Northwest Nazarene University-commit has high goals for herself and her squad this season.
“I think I have a little bit more determination this year coming off a State Championship from last year, I’m hungry to get another one, but also pushing my teammates because I want my team to do well. To win a District Title, that’s our goal, boys and girls, and winning the State Championship and breaking school records. We have a lot to accomplish this season,” said James.
