Several Salem-area teams took part in tournaments this past weekend. Here’s a Round-Up:
Southridge Smackdowb
BEAVERTON, Ore. — The Dallas Girls Wrestling team won the Southridge Smackdown with 264.5 team points. Rylee Whitus (115), Lindsay Faulkner (135), Jenna Rogers (140), Khadijah Tabib (155) and Mahala Collins (235) all finished second to lead the Dragons.
The McNary Girls Wrestling team finished second as a team with 252 points with Chaya Palomo (105) and Marlina Martinez (115) winning their respective weight classes. Kailyn Bollman-Lechner finished second at 110 as the Celtics saw 14 wrestlers placed.
Bill Geister Invitational
CLACKAMAS, Ore.– The South Salem Boys Wrestling team finished ninth and the Sprague Boys Wrestling team finished tenth. The Saxons Damian Zaragoza (157) and Olympians Logan Crosby (175) each finished third. Sprague’s Judah Parr finished second (144).
West Salem’s Kit Shinkle won the 215 pound title. Willamina’s Kisor Savage finished third at 145.
In the Girls Tournament, the Saxon Girls Wrestling team finished third with 112.5 team points. Hadassah Albino-Naya finished second at 120,
West Salem finished sixth with 99 team points, Courtney Gills won the 135 pound title, Olivia Nunez finished second at 140 pounds and Sophia Zuniga finished third at 190 pounds.
Sprague’s Isabella Wilburn (110) and Evelyn Wirfs (170) each finished second. Willamina’s Paige Baker finished second at 190.
Hood River Memorial Tournament
HOOD RIVER, Ore. — The Dallas Boys Wrestling team finished fifth as a team. Jonny Talmadge (132) and Carson Langford (215) each won titles to help lead the Dragons.
McKay’s Yair Sanchez won the 120 pound title. Carlos Montes (190) and Lou Saephanh (285) each finished third as the Scots finished eighth as a team.
Harrisburg All Girls Tournament
HARRISBURG, Ore.– Scio’s Lilly Ihde finished second at 140 pounds. Cascade’s Lorelei Irwin finished third in the 235 pound bracket as the Cougars finished 13th and the Loggers finished 14th as a team in the tournament.
