KEIZER, Ore.–  Defense was the vocal point for the McNary Girls Basketball team entering Friday’s game with Canby.
And it worked against the Cougars.
They built themselves up a nice 34-21 lead midway through the third quarter, and despite a slight run by Canby that cut the lead to single-digits, the Celtics clutched up defensively.  Rebuilding their lead to 18, leading 58-40 in the fourth quarter en route to a 58-47 victory at home.
“It was important to us because defensively, that’s where we’ve been slacking the last couple of games, the last two losses.  So just coming back and focusing on our pressure and our defense is what has to create our offense because that is where we’re best,” said McNary Head Coach Isaiah Gentry. “Our ability to communicate on defense was the best its been all season so far.  So just continuing to grow in that aspect will help us tremendously.”
The win gets McNary back in the win column following a two-game as they’ll look to string together another win on Tuesday against West Salem.
Aubrey Adams led the Celtics with 18 points and Kate Cruickshank also scored in double-figures for McNary.
