STAYTON, Ore.– it was the right step in the right direction for the young Stayton Eagle Boys Basketball team on Monday night against Seaside.
They played unselfish basketball, spreading the wealth. And their defense clutched up, especially in the second half as they held the Seagulls to five second half points in their 52-20 victory at home.
Ayden Collman led the Eagles with 10 points as they ultimately outscored Seaside 25-5 in the final 16 minutes of the game.
“We played so unselfishly, I felt like we did a better job on sharing the ball and letting our offense set-up a little bit and getting something from there,” said Stayton Head acoach Kevin Stanley. “We were very balanced and that’s going to make us a lot harder to guard i stead of having one guys with 35.
“Just sharing the basketball was really impacting for us and will continue to be for the rest of the season.”
Stanley is hoping that it’ll be a good momentum swing for the positive as they travel to Astoria before returning back home to host the annual SCTC Tournament.
“It’s always special to play in it and to compete in and definitely building some momentum (for it),” starts Stanley. “We got a really inexperienced group, a lot of kids who’ve played JV before, so just figuring out with we do, who we are, our roles. We’re coming together.
