AURORA, Ore.– Trevor Bodine has returned to North Marion.
This time as Head Varsity Coach of the Boys Basketball after he departed the school as coach in 2020.
When he left, in the four years he was coaching the Girls Basketball program, he guided the Huskies to four-straight Elite 8 appearances and also led the North Marion Volleyball team to the Elite 8 in the 2019 season. That was his lone year coaching Volleyball.
And this return to North Marion came about when his job relocated him closer to North Marion at the same time that the job with the Boys Basketball program opened up. He applied and here he was, back in the gym where he coached the Girls teams to success.
“It seemed like a no-brainer. I loved it here the first time around on the girls side. I liked the community and now that I’m back on the boys side, I couldn’t pass it up. It’s a good opportunity, ” said Bodine.
Bodine was around when Tully Wagner set up the North Marion Boys Basketball program into a formidable, and respected, program during the late 2010’s. Travis McFarland continued that in his one season coaching the program and Bodine is looking forward in continuing the program in the right direction.
The Huskies will be fielding an young team this year coming off of their 14-11, 4A State Qualifying squad from last season.
Lucas Fowler, Miles Gianella and Riley Jones are the three seniors who returned to the squad this season. Raef Hammack and Matthew Patzer got some Varsity minutes last season as freshman and lead the youth side of the squad that are looking to fill the void left by the seven seniors who graduated from last year’s squad.
In typical Huskie fashion, they’ll be scrappy and be a tough out as they have been through the years as they start the season on Wednesday.
“There’s a lot of guys…it’s just how they grew up with the game. A lot of the guys, they like doing that, people like being aggressive and I like those kind of players and a lot of players here like that too,” said Fowler. “Just working hard at practice, during the offseason. We try to beat each other up here, so it shows when we played with another team.”
The Huskies will start the season Wednesday on the road at Gladstone before heading to play Riverside in Tualatin on December 9. North Marion will host Astoria on December 12 for their home opener.
