SALEM, Ore.– Amity just keeps finding ways to win ball games this season.
They’ve won the close ones, closing them out. They’ve set the tone that they never relinquished the intensity or lead in. And on Saturday, they showed that they can pull away from teams in close fashion as they won the Crusader Classic Green Bracket over Cascade Christian.
With about two minutes left in the opening half against the Challengers, the Warriors led 19-18. Cascade Christian, who had already gone on a 8-3 run to start the game before Amity came back, just clawed back and rebuilt some momentum in the closing minutes of the half.
But that’s when Amity did Amity things.
They hit the clutch shots, their defense clutched up and that one-point lead turned into a 30-19 halftime lead. That lead reached 22 by the end of the third quarter with the Warriors leading 48-26.
Crazy to think that at one point it was a 19-18 game.
“Our defense is great, we really figured out how to defend their team. They had a really good player (Isabel McCauley), so we took her away. We really worked hard getting rebounds. Any play that we ran, we were able to execute. Everyone contributed and we had really good energy today, it was fun,” said Alyssa McMullen. “Just got to work on our energy, working on our half-court basketball and this tournament helped with our confidence and to take it one game at a time and prepare for the next one.”
McMullen finished the game with 16 points with four three-pointers off the heels of a seven three-point game on Friday and Saralynn Grove leading the team with 19 points on Saturday. The Warriors will re-enter PacWest Conference play at 10-0 overall on the season.
McCauley was held to 14 points in the game for Cascade Christian and Jordynn Jones contributed another ten points.
