SALEM, Ore.– The Chemeketa Community College Men’s Basketball team opened the season on Monday with a 87-44 victory over the Corban University JV squad at Chemeketa Community College.
The Storm jumped out to an 17-2 lead five and a half minutes into the contest before the Warriors squad, know as the  Gold Squad, cut the deficit to six by the midway point of the first half.
But at 19-13, it would be the closest that the Corban squad would get as Chemeketa clamped down defensively and transition into their offense and surged ahead of the Warriors.  Over the final 10:01 of half half, the Storm went on a 28-8 run to put Chemeketa ahead 47-21 by the halftime break.
The Storm continued their roll in the second half, outscoring Corban 40-23 to close out the game on Monday
Cascade-grad Spencer Horne had nine points and eight rebounds and three steals to anchor the Storm.  Trayvan Wilkerson (Tualatin) led Chemeketa with 16 points, Stayton-grad Kaden Holm contributed another 14 in the win.
Crosshill Christian-grad Ben Helemstrad led the Warriors with nine points.  Central-grad Adrien Barba and Willamette Valley Christian-grad Jake Higgins each had team-high seven rebounds.
Chemeketa will play host to Highline on Wednesday while Corban will play at Mount Hood Community College on Tuesday.
