DAYTON, Ore.– The Dayton Boys Soccer team are back at it full-steam ahead as they enter 3A/2A/1A Special District 2 league play 5-0 on the season.
All gas no break. The Dayron Pirate way as they return close to 11 players from their 3A/2A/1A State Quaterfinal squad from last season.
And with some additional depth this season, Dayton hopes to live up to the standard set forth by tenth-year Head Coach Jony Miramontes.
“It’s a smart way of play. We come out to every game aggressive. We’re ready to play. We’re not slowing down. We’re not afraid of anyone and we just want to go dominate another team to show that we’re strong and that we’re going to continue that throughout the whole season,” said Dayton’s Jonathan Mendez of the Dayton way.
One of the goals, all pun intended as the Pirates, have scored 19 of them through five games, and allowing four against, is to win league. That starts Thursday at Gervais.
They hope to build upon that into a deep playoff run, their second goal, towards a State Title pnce more after they achieve the first goal.
Their non-league schedule helped them get to league. Setting themselves up for hopefully for the first step towards their goals.
“It’s exciting and a little confidence boost being able to win all of our games and going into league undefeated. It’s a big confidence boost… but just keeping our heads on our shoulders, not losing our temper and staying calm even when it’s a bad situation,” said Martin Rojas.
Thursday’s game starts a two-game road trip with Dayton going to Western Christian to play the Pioneers on Tuesday before hosting Blanchet on September 26
